The House Democratic Caucus today elected Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.) to lead the House Education and Labor Committee.
“As Chairman, I will work to expand access to the building blocks of a strong middle class — a quality education, a rewarding job, and affordable health care,” Scott said in a written statement.
The Education and Labor Committee has oversight over employment issues, including pensions, worker health and safety, wage and hour law, and collective bargaining rights.
Scott told POLITICO in November that the newly Democratic-controlled committee will quickly seek legislation to raise the minimum wage, along with possible hearings on the NLRB’s and DOL’s pending joint employer rules and DOL’s proposed revocation of an Obama-era tip-pooling rule. The committee has not yet announced its first scheduled hearings.
