Membership FAQs

Q. Who joins CUE?

A. Companies that want to improve their strategic use of employees and want to continuously improve their employee satisfaction. The Board of Directors approves all applications before a company becomes a full member. Memberships are company not individuals within the company.

Q. How active are the members?

A. Members of CUE are extremely helpful everyday in providing networking and solutions to business problems. In order to maintain CUE as a bountiful resource, there are four committees to drive its success i.e. Information Services; Product Development; Program; and Membership.

Q. How is CUE governed?

A. CUE has an elected board of directors. The CUE Board of Directors, 25 to 30 members, is a cross representation of member companies. Board of Director members are elected for a three-year term. A chair and vice chair are the principle officers of the association.

Q. What kinds of companies join CUE?


A. There are approximately 30 different kinds of companies that are members of CUE. They include but not limited to aerospace, automotive, electronics, food products, grocery chains, law firms, mining, retail chains, trucking, wholesale distribution, utilities.

Q. What size companies belong to CUE?

A. From small privately owned to Fortune 500 companies.

Conference FAQs

Q. What are the benefits of a CUE conference?

A. Ample time is scheduled for networking among the attendees that provides a rich exchange of ideas. All meals are provided, except Monday night to encourage attendees to network with one another. There is great value to individuals attending and the cost of a CUE conference is low due to the strength of our membership.

Q. What is a CUE conference?

A. Twice annually, CUE provides a two-day conference for its members. A mix of general and concurrent sessions fills the two days with topics unique to and focused around our purpose.

A typical conference has several keynote speakers coming from key corporate positions, federal agencies and political figures addressing issues related to employment law and best practices in employee relations.

Concurrent sessions consist of legal update by our Labor Lawyers Advisory Committee and usually member companies telling about their best practices and experiences with organizing campaigns so others can learn.

Q. Where are the conferences held?

A. The conferences are held in good quality hotels and are rotated around the country. Recent locations include: Charleston, SC, Colorado Springs, CO Savannah, GA, San Diego, CA, St Pete Beach, FL and Williamsburg, VA. Check our Conferences section to find the location of the upcoming conference.

Q. Who attends the conferences?

A. A mix of human resource professionals and line managers attends. A number of organizations use a CUE conference as a training ground for their executives, line managers and supervisors. A two-day conference focused on preventive labor relations.

Q. Who plans the conference?

A. A program committee made up of volunteer members. It is truly a conference by members for members that is why the conference ratings are always high.

Q. Are there other resources available?

A. Network News, our monthly newsletter provides a variety of information of interest to many people in your organization, as well as the quarterly Legal Alert.

Q. What does CUE offer to its members?

A. A variety of videos, training manuals, booklets selected and designed to be used to train your supervisors and employees on remaining union-free.

Q. What other materials are available?

A. CUE members and friends of CUE have written some 68 booklets in the "Studies In Employee Relations Series" which are available to members. They have a wide range of topics and can be used to supplement a training class or be used as a resource. See the Publications Store for details.

Q. What training materials/resources are available?

A. The main publications are:
  • Remaining Union-Free A Supervisor's Guide is our newest offering. It is a revised and updated version of a book that was first produced in the '80s.
  • Union-Free 101 toolbox for Remaining Union-Free is another popular book.
  • The Supervisor's Guide on Union Activities is a portfolio of topic leaflets that can be used as a discussion starter in a training class.
  • A group of videos are available that augment a training program for either supervisors or employees.
